Elizabeth Michael Boyle - 12-30-2021

Our beloved and much revered Elizabeth Michael Boyle OP (Caldwell) has returned to the Divine Artist.  She was a long time DIA member and her loyalty to the organization was beyond measure.  Her dry wit was loved and much appreciated.
Although small in stature, E. Michael, as we lovingly called her, was a DIA giant. She served on multiple DIA Boards, always as Secretary., and her Board Minutes read like those of a Fortune 500 Company's Board meeting.  Her input to Planning Commissions on which she served was invaluable.  It was, however, as Editor of our Newsletter, OPalette where her gift as a wordsmith shined.  The Fall 2020 issue, which was her last, was an absolute masterpiece.  Her weaving of words was magical and her preference for writing was short and with zing.

E. Michael was a highly gifted published author and poet and a member of the Academy of American Poets. In the recently published book "Preaching with Their Lives - Dominicans in Mission in the United States since 1850", E. Michael wrote the chapter on Being Dominican - Call and Response: American Dominican Artists and Vatican II in which several DIA artists are featured.
E. Michael was a poet extraordinaire.  In her poetry, she often said less leaving more room for reflection so that the reader could unpack the layers...
E. Michael was the 2010 recipient of the highest honor which DIA bestows upon a member -- the Fra Angelico Award.  She was also the recipient of the 2014 DIA Spirit Recognition Award which is presented to a member who has rendered significant service to DIA in the spirit of its mission.

Paula Marie Jarosz OP- RIP 11-14-2021

Paula Matie Jarosz OP (Racine) returned to the Divine Artist.  She was a long-time and loyal member of DIA and served on the 2016 Gathering  Planning Commission.  Who could ever forget the Gala entertainment at that Gathering?  Paula Marie was also a member of the Planning Commission for the 2020 Gathering that had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Paula Marie would be the first person to tell you that she was not a painter, musician, sculptor etc but she definitely supported the art of her fellow DIA members.  When arriving at a Gathering, she greeted everyone with her beautiful smile.  When reviewing our work, either through the Virtual Gallery or that displayed in the Marketplace, she always expressed how beautiful it was and never hesitated to encourage us to keep up the good work.  Paula Marie was the epitome of a DIA Supporter and she will be sorely missed.
At our 2011 Gathering, Paula Marie, along with Mary Ellen Paulson, was the recipient of the DIA Spirit Recognition Award which acknowledges significant service to DIA in the spirit of its mission.
Let us hold Paula Marie, her Racine Dominican Family, and the Jarosz family in a hammock of prayer, love and support as they travel this path in the journey of life.
Peace,
Pat
