Liz Sully OP
SinsinOP this morning reported that Liz fractured her pelvis not her hip and is recuperating in hospital. Although a fractured pelvis is not good news, I would think that it is better than a fractured hip.
Prayers for her recovery

Dominican artists,
INAI is Dominican preaching at its best. Barbara Chenicek, OP and Rita Schiltz, OP have expressed in sacred spaces what Vatican II sought to express in its amazing and spirit filled documents, (documents that were greatly influenced by Dominican theologians MD Chenu, Yves Congar and others). I will never forget the day I entered the newly renovated Dominican Chapel in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Its silent, beauty embraced me as I walked from the transition space at the entrance that guided me to the door that opened onto a journey of letting go into a sacred space of “what was deleted and what was included,” as Barbara and Rita put it. It was a sacred place where I was being invited to delete things in myself so as to be welcomed and included in a space where I could encounter the holy.
I began to notice the many details that together took part in the whole composition. It was the exquisite beauty of unadorned walls that first struck me. Angles and plaines created both communal liturgical space and private intimate spaces. I noticed the neutral colors that allowed the brilliant greens in the large tapestry hung to celebrate summer. Gentle movement of outdoor greens softly filtered through the translucent windows. And I noticed my tears as I sat in the silence to receive the Word of God. where the place itself was sacred Dominican preaching.
If you haven’t been to this chapel, it’s well worth your time to make a pilgrimage there. Well done Rita and Barb. I look forward to seeing the Great Bend, Kansas chapel at the DIA conference in 2015.

Rudolf Lowenstein's Father's name
Dear All,
thank you for that. I do appreciate it...
My father always used his name and title - so he was known as Prince Rupert Loewenstein (or if you want the full name, Prince Rupert zu Loewenstein Wertheim Freudenberg).
Given that I am a friar, I usually just keep to fr Rudolf when being formal and (as most of you all know me) Rudolf. The formal side of things I did not really inherit!!!
love,
Rudolf
Note: Funeral is next week. His brother will preside at the Tridentine mass and Rudolf will preach. It was his father's request to have the Tridentine Mass.

Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Inai Studio
For those of you who missed the wonderful occasion last summer when the Adrian Congregation celebrated the 40th anniversary of INAI Studio, we now have a recording of the presentation given by Sisters Barbara Chenicek and Rita Schiltz posted on our Adrian Dominican Sisters public website. You will find it under the “Publications” tab at this link:
http://www.adriandominicans.org/Publications/INAI40.aspx
The hour-long visual presentation, “INAI 40—Reflections on a Grace: The Journey of INAI,” depicts four decades of extraordinary design of contemporary sacred space. We delayed in posting it because we needed to do some work to render the beautiful images more true to the originals than the initial recording captured.
Please share the link with family and friends!

DIA Member Alyce Van Acker OP has 40 Year Retrospective Show
Adrian Sister Alyce Van Acker OP is
a master of Color and a long-time member of the Dominican Institute for the
Arts. This April 2014 she is having a retrospective show called "
Sharing Color".
Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles, IL will host a solo
spring show in honor of Batavia resident Alyce Van Acker, O.P. The exhibit
“Sharing Color” will feature selected paintings from four decades of painting.
These will include a variety of sizes and techniques.
Alyce says,“Color – for me- is the most avidly enjoyed and
magnetizing element to utilize in painting. Through it, I believe my paintings
evoke a tranquil luminosity as they speak of land and atmosphere: air, space,
sunlight, water and fog. At the same time, each painting is a metaphor of inner
and outer experience.”
Van Acker, who also was Fine Line’s first painting teacher, has
taught numerous drawing and painting classes since she started in 1980.
The show will run from April 17 through May 23 in
the Kavanagh Gallery at Fine Line, 37W570 Bolcum Road, St. Charles. An artist’s reception will take place in the
gallery from 5:30 to 8p.m.
Friday, May 2.

We all know this year's gathering is in Weber Center in Adrian from July 23-26. This is the last event at Weber Center. I hope you have considered sending in your registration and memberships.
We have happy news to report regarding our gatherings in 2015 and 2016. Through the hard work of Mary Pat Reid and Pat Daly along with the support of local membership we are happy to announce we have sites for those two gatherings. As we had shared many motherhouses have had renovations that preclude our meeting there and this has not been an easy task.
We realize some of you may need to budget for these Gatherings and so are sending you the dates and places now.
Happily both are on the grounds of Dominican Motherhouses:
DIA Gathering 2015 will take place at Heartland Spirituality Center in Great Bend, Kansas. It is a ministry of the Dominican Sisters of Peace and is located on the grounds of the Great Bend Motherhouse and has the chapel designed by INAI as well as Dominican hospitality. It will take place Wednesday July 22 through Saturday, July 25, 2015.
DIA Gathering 2016 will take place at the retreat center at Racine, WI from Wednesday July 27 through Saturday, July 30, 2016.
We hope you will mark your calendars for these future gatherings.
I hope you have seen the last email which involved website opportunities for sisters and associates for the sisters grant for ncr. I hope you will take advantage of it.
Congratulations to Alyce Van Acker OP who is having a 40 year retrospective this month. We hope to know more soon so we can publicize it. If you are having a show or special event please let us know.
Happy Lent!

NCR expanded coverage for Women religious and associates
I encourage you to consider being part of this project.
Barbara
As you are all aware, the National Catholic Reporter received a grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation to expand coverage of women religious, both in the U.S. and internationally. As part of that initiative, a Global Sisters Report website will be launched in April.
Sister Jan Cebula, OSF, the Project Liaison for the website, has contacted us to explore how CWR members can become involved and contribute. As the Global Sisters Report website launch approaches, Sister Jan is reaching out to CWR for the specific needs for the website at this point in time:
Women religious and others associated with women religious who are interested in writing for a blog (short pieces) on a frequent basis. These would be responses to timely events or current issues in the news, written from the writer’s perspective. Persons interested in writing a blog, should contact Sister Jan Cebula, OSF at jcebula@ncronline.org for more information and to submit a writing sample.
Women religious who are interested in writing longer pieces (essay length--800-1000 words) on a regular basis on the following topics: environmental issues, economic inequality/poverty and contemplation. Persons interested should contact Sister Jan Cebula, OSF at jcebula@ncronline.org for more information and to submit a writing sample.
Young women in formation who are interested in writing occasional columns. Persons interested should contact Colleen Dunne at cdunne@ncronline.org and submit a writing sample.
Contributions of inspiring or compelling photographs or visual artwork. For more information, contact Tracy Abeln at tabeln@ncronline.org.
CWR Executive Team: Julie Gilberto Brady, Co-Chair, Eileen Dickerson, Co-chair, Sister Barbara Mullen, CSJ, Treasurer

Poetry Alive Festival
Since our regular deadline (Feb. 15) is fast approaching, we've extended our regular deadline to March 3rd. As you well know December and early-to-mid-January things are pretty much in hibernation mode in general. So, I figured that we needed to extend our regular deadline to give folks, especially students, time to submit works. The early deadline still holds at February 1st, in which entrants are charged 50 percent less in fees.
Attached is a revised flyer. I'll send you the poetry film flyer in another email, as both files may be too large for our serve to handle. [To find flyers go to www.poetryalive.org as files are too big to place here]
Please helps us by letting DIA members know of this extension. Thank you!
Blessings,
fr. Armando
